The brief, the decisions and the delivery
A clearer online home for cancer support and community involvement
The challenge
Cancer Black Care supports Black people and people of colour affected by cancer, alongside their families and carers, through culturally sensitive information, advice and practical support. Its website has to serve people in very different circumstances. Someone looking for help needs a clear route to support; a volunteer, partner or donor needs to understand the charity and how to contribute. We were asked to design and develop a new WordPress website that could organise this breadth of information and give the charity a welcoming, coherent online presence.
Start with the people seeking support
We organised the content around the charity's audiences and the questions that bring them to the site. Cancer information, support services and ways to make contact have distinct places in the page structure. This allows someone to begin with the topic relevant to them and find a next step without reading the whole website. Information about the charity, its people and its community work provides context for visitors who are encountering Cancer Black Care for the first time.
Give sensitive information a calm visual setting
The design uses clear headings, readable content layouts and photography that reflects the community behind the charity. We established a consistent visual system for the homepage and inner pages, with responsive layouts for smaller screens. The intention was to make substantial information approachable and easy to scan. Each page follows the same hierarchy for headings, images and supporting details, giving visitors a familiar structure as they move between topics.
Make participation part of the main website
Supporting a charity can mean giving time, attending an event, joining a programme or making a donation. We brought events and workshops, volunteer and trustee opportunities, community programmes and online donations into the same website structure. The donation journey uses GiveWP within WordPress. These sections give each type of supporter a relevant route, while keeping the charity's purpose and the people it serves visible throughout the experience.
Build a resource the charity can maintain
We translated the designs into a working WordPress website with a reusable page system for the charity's content. Cancer information and treatment resources, news, support pages and opportunities to get involved need to remain useful as the organisation's work develops. An editable platform gives the team a basis for maintaining those resources over time. The gallery documents the delivered page designs, including the team, information, support, donation and about sections.
What we delivered
- Website design, content architecture and WordPress development from scratch
- Responsive homepage and reusable inner-page layouts
- Cancer information, treatment resources and support pathways
- About, team, community, news and contact sections
- Events, workshops, volunteer and trustee opportunities
- Online donation journey implemented with GiveWP
The outcome
The finished website provides a connected home for the charity's information, services and opportunities to contribute. People seeking support can explore relevant resources and contact the organisation, while supporters can learn about its work and find ways to participate. Paul Campbell, Managing Director, described the website as an invaluable resource for the community and praised the team's dedication and willingness to meet the charity's requirements.
Evidence comes from the delivered page designs and Paul's existing testimonial. This case study describes the website project, not measured changes in donations, service uptake or search visibility.

What this means for your project
A charity website often has several important audiences with different needs. Begin by identifying the people who need help and the practical next step for each of them. Then give donors, volunteers and partners their own clear routes. A consistent design and manageable content structure help those journeys coexist as the organisation adds new resources and programmes.
