The brief, the decisions and the delivery
A small author website with a story-led opening
The challenge
Jeremy J Mills needed a home for The Sorrell Legacy, his historical fiction series, and its first book, Sorrell's Gold. This was a focused landing-page project: introduce the story, give readers a sense of the author and make the book easy to find. We designed and built a custom WordPress website that Jeremy could keep up to date as the series develops.
Open with the book itself
The hero pairs the book cover with estate imagery, serif typography and a forest-green and gold palette. As visitors scroll, the cover opens and the pages turn. We built the effect with CSS 3D transforms and a lightweight scroll interaction, with a static treatment for people who prefer reduced motion.
Keep the reader's next step clear
One continuous page introduces the story, the series and Jeremy. The available first book has direct UK and US retailer links, while forthcoming titles have their own updates. Readers can explore the setting and author before choosing to buy or join the mailing list, without an unnecessary on-site checkout.
Make the content easy to maintain
A custom WordPress theme and ACF fields keep the page editable. Book information, images, links and publication updates can change without rebuilding the design. Reader reviews are moderated before appearing on the website, giving Jeremy control over what is published.
Include the practical foundations
The build includes responsive layouts and images, newsletter sign-up with email confirmation, and technical SEO foundations such as metadata, canonical URLs and structured data. These support the website's day-to-day use; they are not a claim of increased book sales or search rankings.
What we delivered
- Author landing-page design and a custom WordPress theme with ACF
- Scroll-driven opening book with a reduced-motion fallback
- Story, series and author sections with editable publication updates
- Direct retailer links for Sorrell's Gold
- Newsletter sign-up and moderated reader reviews
- Responsive image handling and technical SEO foundations
The outcome
Jeremy has a distinctive, manageable website that brings his books and author profile together. The opening animation introduces the book, while the rest of the page gives readers a clear route to explore, buy or stay in touch. His review below highlights the quick, efficient delivery and support throughout the project.
The project records and public website captured on 17 October 2026 support the scope shown here. Gallery images include close-ups of the real book animation. No book-sales, subscriber-growth, traffic or ranking increase is claimed.
What the client said
I am the first author Matt has ever had, and it has worked like a dream. Everything I have asked for has been done quickly and efficiently. I cannot recommend Matt and his team highly enough. He is a genuine player in a very tough market and that is worth its weight in gold for anyone not very tech savvy like me.

What this means for your project
A small author website can do a clear job: introduce the writing, help readers choose where to begin and give them a way to stay connected. A distinctive opening works best when the information and editing tools behind it remain straightforward.
